The Civic Type-R Launches in Malaysia |
|
|
|
|
Wednesday, 18 July 2007 21:25 |
In spite of the barrage of naysayers claiming that Honda Malaysia will never bring the Civic Type-R into Malaysia, the boffins have decided to go against convention and bring it in anyway.
Using the Japanese version - not the super cool 3-door European variant, as some of us were hoping - as the model to catapult the birth of Type-R in Malaysia, the much anticipated launch is something that we're all eagerly waiting for.
The car will be revealed to the media on the 2nd of August 2008. Prices, details and specs will be revealed then.
On another note, Honda will also use the launch of the Type-R as a platform for launching their new Hybrid Civic.
Surprised? Not us.

Porsche's Flagship 911, The GT2
is back and as far as we can tell, it's in bloody rude health. With big numbers - how does 3.6 seconds to a hundred, 7.4 to a hundred and eighty and a top speed of 315km/h sound? - the new widowmaker is on track for the fastest road going 911 ever. Unfortunately, this time the GT2 has been shackled with - get this - the PSM system. Whilst we must agree that the ultra brilliant PSM system works, it's dissapointing to see it on Porsche's balls out 911. At 1445kg the GT2 is 140kg lighter than the four wheel drive Turbo. A titanium exhaust system, PCCB brakes and a lack of a frontal propshaft complete the package. 530bhp hits at a stratospheric 6,500rpm with torque figures breaking the roof, pumping out 505lb ft of twist.

Milking their line up for all its worth, BMW does another variant of the 1. Only this time, it's really quite good.
On sale in the spring of 2008, the 1 Series Coupe will be available in two versions; the 128i and the 135i. Powered by a 3.0-liter, 230 horsepower inline 6-cyinder engine that generates 200 lb-ft of torque, the 128i Coupe will feature Valvetronic valvetrain management and aluminum/magnesium contruction—core elements of BMW’s EfficientDynamics. The powerful 135i Coupe features BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and an incredible 300 lb-ft of torque from as low as 1,400 rpm. With its direct piezo gasoline injectors, twin low-mass turbochargers and air-to-air intercooling, optimum performance and economy is achieved with no loss in engine response. For the 135i Coupe, acceleration from 0-62 mph is accomplished in 5.3 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Both engines feature on-demand engine coolant pumps that improve fuel economy and reduce parasitic losses for increased output.

FERRARI
distributor Hong Seh Motors has hit a roadblock in its bid to establish itself
in Malaysia, where its potential partner has found its supply of approved
permits (APs) suspended and its shareholders hauled up for questioning,
according to today's The Business Times.A week ago, the Malaysian company Next
Car — the franchise holder for Ferrari and Maserati in Malaysia — invited Hong
Seh's directors to take a 30 per cent stake.
The stake has not yet been
priced.Last year, Next Car sold about 30 Italian sports cars, and an
"entry-level" Ferrari F430 starts in Malaysia at more than RM1.5
million ($664,000).Next Car's move to sell and transfer 30 per cent of its
equity must be approved in writing by Malaysia's Foreign Investment Committee
(FIC) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Miti). The remaining 70 per cent,
to be held by bumiputras, is consistent with Miti's National Automotive
Policy. But before Next Car could submit its application, the paper said, its AP
allocation was suspended by Miti.
The two Singapore directors of Hong Seh, as
well as the bumiputra partners and shareholders of Next Car, were also called
up for questioning by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).Mr Edward Tan, one of
the two Hong Seh directors invited to sit on the new Next Car board, said he
was "shocked" by the moves."As Singaporean investors with our
other Malaysian bumiputra shareholders and directors, we are shocked that ACA
has been pulled into the fray instead of the Registrar of Companies or Miti and
FIC to investigate this matter," he said."This has serious and
dangerous implications for foreign investors on the sensitive matter of doing
business in Malaysia
in general."Sources say the problems apparently started when Next Car's
former chairman, Mr Nasimuddin Amin, was asked by the board to step down over a
business disagreement.
But Mr Nasimuddin, who owns Naza Group, a major
Malaysian automotive assembly and distribution company, was retained as a
director of Next Car. He also remains as shareholder of the company.Hong Seh has
been the Ferrari distributor in Singapore
since 1984. When Next Car was formed in 1996, it tapped Hong Seh's expertise in
selling and marketing the Italian marque.Over the past 10 years, the two
distributors on both sides of the Causeway have been involved in joint
promotions and other collaborative efforts, although they are separate
entities.
Hong Seh also plans to invest in the Iskandar Development Region or
IDR in South Johor by setting up automotive and tourism-related businesses. But
the problems with Next Car have put a dampener on things, said Mr Tan, adding
that Hong Seh is now less confident about investments across the Causeway.
